Dr Bill Rudman (Australian Museum, Sea Slug Forum) notes that this species was described from a single specimen and he is "pretty sure that it is really just a colour form of Platydoris inframaculata" (pers. comm. Dec 2014) but there has been no formal synonymy. He discusses colour variation in Sea Slug Forum (link above).

Local abundance
- Lizard Island: Rare. This is the first record of this species at Lizard Island. It is known in Australia only from the mid GBR and the Sunshine Coast (Atlas of Living Australia accessed 12 Dec 2014).
Behaviour
The photographed specimen was found as shown, fully exposed on the reef flat at night during a coral spawning event (11 Dec 2014).
