Distinguishing features

A brown/orange ant with the distal half of the abdomen black. Large, black, oval eyes positioned high on the head. Abdomen often tilted upwards. Moves with a jerky motion when disturbed, hence the common name "strobe ant".

  • Up to 0.6 cm (estimated length of most individuals)
  • Up to 1 cm (estimated length of a few individuals)
