Distinguishing features

A moderately-sized brittlestar that is usually found under slabs of rubble on sand. Colour pattern is distinctive: deep red/mauve with arm plates outlined in white, arms and arm spines both banded red/mauve with white. Some arm spines are expanded at the tip in large specimens.

This may be Ophiomastix variabilis or a different colour form (and habitat) of Ophiomastix annulosa. Both have been recorded from Lizard Island.
