Distinguishing features
A fast-swimming silver fish with a distinctly dark patch on the dorsal fin. Adults have a double series of six to eight slightly darker blotches, one above and one below the lateral line - these may not be easy to see. The mouth extends to or beyond the rear margin of the eye.
