Distinguishing features
This "species" is currently considered a synonym of Stylophora pistillata (WORMS accessed 10 Sep 2016). However, coral workers at James Cook University are recording the fatter form of that species as Stylophora mordax cf (Grace Frank, pers. comm., 2016).

Stylophora mordax cf is listed as a synonym of Stylophora pistillata by WORMS (accessed 10 Sep 2016). Veron (2000) notes that the fatter "mordax" form is often found on shallow reef flats. However, coral workers at James Cook University in 2016 are recording Stylophora mordax cf as a separate species according to Grace Frank.
