Distinguishing features

Colonies encrusting or submassive, rarely exceeding 15 cm diameter. Distinctive cylindrical corallites up to about 5 mm diameter that are separate from each other. They can protrude unevenly or form an even surface on different parts of the same colony. Two complete cycles of septa. If a third is present, it is incomplete. Formerly known as Leptastrea inaequalis - that species is now known to be restricted to the Indian Ocean and Red Sea. (Arrigoni et al, 2020)
