Distinguishing features
Adults are pale blue/grey with many small black spots all over. Juveniles are mostly yellow with a black margin on tail and ventral fin tips, and with dark blotches on the lips.

Local abundance
- Lizard Island, Queensland, Australia: Uncommon at Lizard Island. Large adults are not recorded from the island: size is usually less than 40 cm.
