Distinguishing features

A tree or shrub with ovate leaves up to 20 cm long, glossy green above, duller green or even brown below, arranged in whorls around the stem. Midrib is raised on the upper leaf blade and the lateral veins form loops near the blade margin. Small creamy white flowers form in the leaf axils. Twigs and petioles exude a milky sap when cut.
