Distinguishing features

Similar to the weed species Gamba Grass (Andropogon gayanus, which is not recorded from Lizard Island), Mnesithea rottboellioides "is a native perennial grass that grows up to 2.5m tall with smooth, hairless, branching stems and sharp spiky rhizomes."
