Pavetta brownii was first recorded from Lizard Island at Cook's Look in 1990, noted as "rare" (Atlas of Living Australia accessed 28 Dec 2018). Pavetta australiensis occurs on the mainland nearby (ALA 28 Dec 2018). It remains to be determined which species name applies to the photographed specimens near sea level at LIRS. There may even be two species, as one of the LIFG records was flowering in June 2016 and another was flowering in Dec 2018.
